Arthroscopy of the Shoulder, Knee and Hip

Dr. MacLeod is a native of Rome, Georgia where he attended Darlington School.  After leaving Rome he spent his undergraduate years at Davidson College where he graduated with honors and a B.S. in Biology.  Next, he attended Emory University School of Medicine where he graduated in the top of his class.  He was asked to stay and complete his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Emory where he spent the next five years.  During his total of nine years at Emory University he published articles, was awarded three top honors for research, was named to numerous medical honor societies and received an honorary scholarship for excellence in surgery.  In addition, he was an assisting physician for Georgia Tech Athletics.

Afterwards, Dr. MacLeod and his family moved to Park City, Utah where he was accepted into the distinguished Utah Sports Medicine Fellowship.  Here, he completed a fellowship in sports medicine / shoulder and knee surgery focusing on innovative arthroscopic and reconstructive treatments.  He was a physician for University of Utah Athletics as well as local professional athletes. 

Dr. MacLeod’s practice focuses on the injured athlete as well as injuries of the shoulder, knee and hip, with emphasis on arthroscopic and reconstructive treatments attempting to preserve or restore cartilage.  He also performs total shoulder and reverse shoulder arthroplasty. Dr. MacLeod has performed traveling hip arthroscopy fellowships with Thomas Byrd in Nashville, TN and Marc Phillipon at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, CO.

He is an outdoor and sports enthusiast.  He has competitively raced mountain bikes, snowboards and competed in freestyle kayaking.  During college, he was a member of the Davidson Lacrosse team.  He is the team physician for the US Freestyle Kayaking Team and also serves as a team physician for the US Snowboarding Team.  Dr. MacLeod also acts as a consultant for design of arthroscopic devices.  He is publishing a book entitled “Kayaking Fitness” due out in 2010.

Dr. MacLeod is a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, a Candidate Member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and a Candidate Member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Currently Dr. MacLeod enjoys spending time with his wife Anne, and children, William and Carson.
